The nearest are in Pierrefort (10 minutes’ drive away), and include a grocer, a baker, 2 butchers, a bank, a pharmacy and 3 fuel stations. There is also a small supermarket on the outskirts of the town which stocks fresh bread. Most are open on Sunday morning, closed all day Monday, and open Tuesday through Saturday except at lunch-time. The grocer and the supermarket are open all day Monday. Pierrefort has a weekly food market on Wednesday mornings.
There are bigger supermarkets in Saint-Flour (30 minutes’ drive away), which are open every weekday from 9 am to 7.30 pm, and closed on Sunday.

Local specialities
The Auvergne is renowned for its beef, hams and cheeses. It has no fewer than five cheeses with the European AOP label (Appellation d'Origine Protégée): Bleu d'Auvergne, Cantal, Fourme d'Ambert, St Nectaire and Salers. Traditional dishes include aligot and truffade, both based on Cantal cheese and potatoes.
