Shops & services
The nearest are in Pierrefort (10 minutes’ drive away), and include a grocer, a baker, 2 butchers, a bank, a pharmacy and 3 fuel stations. There is also a supermarket on the outskirts of the town which stocks fresh bread. Most are open from Tuesday to Saturday and on Sunday mornings. The supermarket is also open all day Monday.

There are bigger supermarkets in Saint-Flour (30 minutes’ drive away), which are open from Monday to Saturday.

Pierrefort has a weekly food market on Wednesday mornings, and Saint-Flour has a bigger one on Saturday mornings.

Restaurants
The nearest are in Gourdièges, Oradour and Pierrefort.
For gourmets there is Michel Bras (Michelin 3-star) in Laguiole an hour’s drive away, and Serge Vieira in Chaudes-Aigues 30 minutes away.

Local specialities
The Auvergne is renowned throughout France for its beef, hams and cheeses. It has no fewer than five cheeses with the European AOP label (Appellation d’Origine Protégée): Bleu d’Auvergne, Cantal, Fourme d’Ambert, St Nectaire and Salers. Traditional dishes include aligot and truffade, both based on Cantal cheese and potatoes.
