The Area walking
Walking
There is superb walking all round La Roche, in very varied terrain: valleys, streams, gorges, natural mixed woodlands of beech, ash, rowan, birch and pine; uplands, mountain ridges and peaks.
Some woodland walks start directly from the gîte, and you don’t need to drive far to get a complete change of scene.
The area is crossed by many well-signposted paths, including three long-distance GRs: the GR400 threads its way over the Cantal mountains, the GR4 links the Cantal with the Lozère, and the GR65 (one of the Santiago de Compostela routes) crosses the Aubrac from east to west.
The local Tourist Offices can suggest walks of varying levels.
A local historic-footpath association (Les Chemins de l’Europe) organises conducted walks in the summer and autumn.
